The ARC – Atlantic Rally for Cruisers

The  – Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) is an annual transatlantic sailing event for cruiser yachts held since 1986. ARC starts at the end of November in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and ends before Christmas at Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia, in the Caribbean.

The ARC is the largest trans-ocean sailing event in the world and regularly attracts over 200 boats of many different shapes and sizes. The route takes between 8 and 31 days aided by trade winds, and covers over 2700 nautical miles. Founded by Jimmy Cornell it is now organised by the World Cruising Club

We are traveling with ARC+ which sails via the Cape Verde islands just off the coast of Dakar in West Africa

Our Itinerary is as follows

11 Nov Start of Gran Canaria – Sao Vicente leg (865nm)
16-18 Nov Arrival in Mindelo, Sao Vicente (Marina Mindelo)
21 Nov Start of Sao Vicente – Saint Lucia leg (2090nm)
3-8 Dec Arrival in Saint Lucia (Rodney Bay Marina)

You can follow our progress via a link to the ARC+ Fleet Tracker. Once its loaded select ARC+ 2018 and you will be able to see us and our location updated on a 4 hourly basis.

Once we leave we will endeavor to post to this blog on a daily if not two-daily basis, it will be via either satellite or SSB, which means no pictures I’m afraid, but we will do a finish blog and upload them all to the relevant days then. Also keep an eye on the twitter account too!

In the meantime check out the link to the ARC+ fleet Viewer
