Allegrini is a Beneteau Oceanis 473, built in 2004 with a blue hull. She is shoal-keeled, has a 75hp Volvo engine, a bow thruster, in-mast furling, and the three-cabin layout option.
She was first owned by a guy who bought her as his plaything to moor outside his villa in the Canary Islands, used at most 3-4 weeks a year, she suffered neglect, not from abuse, but lack of use. The engine had only a few hours on the clock, and the cabins had never been slept in.
Before we started to buy her in December of 2010, her gearbox had to be completely rebuilt and the turbo replaced. This meant, however, that although the mechanics needed severe attention, the interior was immaculate. The topsides were a little sun-bleached, as were the hatches a little crazed; the rigging will need replacing in the long term but is good enough for us to play with for now.
We took ownership in March 2011, and renamed her!! I know it’s supposed to be unlucky, but we paid our homage to Poseidon and did everything right!
